Dear Mayor Sullivan,

While I understand that a response has been coming, I realize it might be more cost effective if I provide a possible written response from your office to me.  After all, I work cheaper than they do.  🙂

Here’s a form such a response might take:

Dear Dr. Kent—

Thank you for bringing these serious matters to my attention.  Because of the concerns you have espoused over our water, I have directed the Municipality of Anchorage to take the following action.

First, the source of the manganese is such and such, which we can or cannot remove.  Notwithstanding, because it is a possibility, albeit remote, that one could boil the water reducing it’s volume from 8 gallons to one gallon thereby concentrating the manganese to a possibly toxic level, the Municipality is going to issue a warning so that residents may avoid any manganese toxicity from our drinking water by concentrating it.

Second, the cost of maintaining our fluoridation programs is $x per year and we are taking this opportunity to cease all fluoridation of our water at this time.  Furthermore, the Municipality of Anchorage will no longer offer contracts for bid to provide Sodium Fluoride to the Municipality.  This will also save the Municipality in terms of maintaining the equipment necessary.  Overall, my office anticipates a savings of $x annually which is indeed appreciated during this difficult time of budgeting.

While we recognize easily hard numbers in terms of annual savings, it is admittedly far more difficult to quantify the health of citizens and the savings in terms of quality of life your suggestions shall result bring.  Nonetheless, my office recognizes the wisdom in taking action now and I would like to invite you join me for lunch in appreciation of the fine service you have given to your community.

Taking the risk of bringing such controversial matters to the attention of public authorities after years of institutionalization of such practices at the risk of possible ridicule, takes gumption.  I assure you my office appreciates your courage in bringing these matters to our attention.

Sincerely,

Mayor Sullivan

My three greatest joys in life are (a) good company, (b) good conversation, and (c) good food.  Allow me to buy coffee after lunch if we find our converation merits more time.  After all, it’s good therapy.  😉  And, no, I am not practising on you!  🙂

But, you might return to work rather refreshed.  Executives never cease working; it’ll be a working lunch of a different sort.

PS  Do have your office post your official comments right here.  I’d be honored if you would.
