People & Power Investigate Pharmaceutical Money

In 2009, drug companies paid $5 billion in fines for fraud. That may seem like a lot, but Americans spend over $300 billion a year on pharmaceutical drugs. Those fines are less than 2% of gross income. Drug executives consider that to be a good business model. A tax advocate reports (at 11:15) company kickbacks to doctors in the cancer industry accounted for 60 to 70% of doctors’ income. Some of the side effects of psychiatric drugs such as Risperdal (Risperidone) coming to light are males growing breasts and causing brain tumors, Parkinson’s and diabetes. (Courtesy G.
